Kolesnikova A.N. “GUESS THE ACCENT”
The English language is used by millions of people around the world. As a matter of fact, they do not all sound the same, and very few sound like the recordings feature in popular published ELT materials. To be successful communicators internationally, students need not only to make themselves understood, but to be prepared to listen and understand the truly vast variety of accents they’ll encounter in the world outside the classroom.
This interactive lecture aims at making learners of English get aware of a variety of native and non-native accents. It introduces the theory of World Englishes and offers listening practice within the “Guessing Game” on both native and non-native accents with a further discussion.
